Year Round Recreation
Malabar Farm State Park offers year round recreation. The winter months are described as a photographers paradise and can offer many picturesque views not seen during other seasons. Likewise, visitors can hit the numerous x-country ski trails during this season. Beginner and Advanced trails are available. Be sure to check current trail conditions prior to your arrival.
In winter, the average temperature is 27.9 degrees (f) and the average daily minimum temperature is 20.5 degrees. The all-time record low temperature of -26 °F (-32 °C) was set on January 15, 1929.
In summer, the average temperature is 70.0 degrees and the average daily maximum temperature is 79.9 degrees. The all-time record high temperature in Mansfield of 105 °F (41 °C) was established on July 21, 1934, which occurred during the Dust Bowl drought of the 1930s.
The average annual total precipitation is 43.26 inches. Of this, about 23.88 inches, or 55 percent, usually falls in May through October. The growing season for most crops falls within this period. Thunderstorms occur on about 36 days each year, and most occur between May and August.
The average seasonal snowfall is 44.3 inches. The greatest 24-hour snowfall was 23 inches (58 cm) on December 22–23, 2004. On average, 45 days per year have at least 1 inch of snow on the ground.
The sun shines 60 percent of the time in summer and 36 Percent in winter. The prevailing wind is from the south, although northwest winds are nearly as common in most months. Average wind speed is highest, around 10.5 miles per hour in March.
